Art Awareness
Art Awareness
What is Art Awareness?
Welcome to Central School’s Art Awareness program! Sponsored by the PTA, Art Awareness introduces students in grades 1 through 4 to artists working in a variety of genres, from architecture to photography.
When is Art Awareness?
The week of November 2-5.
What is new for 2009?
The fall presentation marks the reorganization of the program. Art Awareness continues to be coordinated by parent co-chairs (Stacey Pigott, Andrew Sohn and Dawn Schoorlemmer). This year, we’re happy to work with our new partner – Central’s art teacher, Jaime Berngard. In the past, Art Awareness was held twice a year in the auditorium as a pull-out enrichment opportunity. However, in an effort to reduce the time children are out of class, we now will hold just one program during the children’s regularly scheduled art class time. In addition to preserving class time, we will also make excellent use of the art room’s Smart Board.
What will the children study this year?
we will explore the work of Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Week 1 will encompass presentations and the start of our related project. Week 2 will be used for the completion of the children’s work.
How can parents get involved?
The program would not be possible without the help of our amazing parent presenters. Volunteers receive training and a prepared outline to deliver a presentation to their child’s classroom. Presentations last about 25 minutes, after which volunteers will have the option of helping the children work on a related art project. Ms. Berngard will be on hand to help with the Q & A portion of the presentation as well as help guide the project, so parents aren’t required to be an art historian or artistic.
